Additional reporting / Procurement

The central Group Procurement function, administered and managed by external specialists buyingTeam, continues to work closely with the Corporate Responsibility team and other central functions enabling projects to be developed, controlled and embedded in a structured manner that meet the Group's global requirements.

In endeavouring to maximise economies of scale, Group procurement has identified cost saving opportunities and synergies in many areas including travel, facilities management, marketing and IT expenditure that have given rise to global framework agreements and enhanced global operating infrastructures.

By working with other specialist departments within the Group their combined efforts continue to contribute to shared objectives and build a strong reputation.

Our achievements this year
During the year, the team has delivered measured savings of $7,179k (£4,176k). In addition, a number of specific projects have been instigated to deliver both future cost savings and support Man's environmental credentials.

Global travel policy
Group Procurement co-ordinated the development and implementation of a travel policy across the Company with a view to reducing costs through improved workflow and expense processes, and the avoidance of any unnecessary travel through increased utilisation of alternative means of communication such as video conferencing.

Water system (Vivreau)
Working with the Building Administration team in London a new 'plumbed in' water system that filters and chills mains water was installed throughout Man's London offices. This replaced the need to purchase an average of 3,000 plastic bottles of water per day.

Global print policy
Working alongside the Technology Group a print policy has been developed and where possible the hardware configured to default to double-sided, draft, black and white printing, rather than the previous preference for colour.

Waste and recycling (Bywaters)
A new service provider has been engaged with the objective of maximising the amount of recycled waste and minimising the amount of landfill waste. The contractor, Bywaters, only requires that waste is segregated between dry recyclables and residual waste before they undertake greater separation of the waste through mechanical means back at their processing plant. To further improve our recycling rate all under desk bins in the London offices have been replaced with desktop bins for dry recyclable waste only.

Awards
Since last reporting, the procurement team were shortlisted for two prestigious awards, the CIPS award for 'Best Contribution to Corporate Responsibility' and the 'ProcureCon Award for Corporate Responsibility'.

Our plans for next year
We will continue to provide a fully integrated and enabled procurement function delivering best value spend management, in line with the needs and priorities of the business.
