London Youth Rowing (£140,000)
We completed five-years' funding (£700,000 in total) as a founding donor for London Youth Rowing which gives young people throughout London the opportunity to row. London Youth Rowing helps thousands of young Londoners, aged 11-18, to gain confidence and skills through physical activity and sport, offering the highest standards of coaching and encouragement for all. We will be extending our commitment to London Youth Rowing for a further three years.
Saracens Foundation (£31,000)
The Saracens Foundation is the charitable arm of Saracens Rugby Football Club, and works to enhance the lives of children and young people through sport, physical activity and health promotion activities. The Saracens brand, professional players and high-quality staff come together to inspire and challenge children to live an active and healthy lifestyle, whilst understanding the benefits of doing so.
Duke of York Champions Trophy (£35,000)
The flagship event of the Duke of York Sports Foundation. the Duke of York Champions Trophy, first played in 2001 is an international 54-hole stroke play golf tournament for boys and girls who are either the current holders of their Under 18 National Championship or have won some other major national golfing event in the preceding year. This highly rated invitational event aims to promote the development of junior golf, encourage competitiveness and friendship between individual champions and give them the chance to play one of the finest UK links courses against a field of top quality players. There are also lectures on fitness, nutrition and equipment.
Greenhouse Schools Project (£100,000)
We completed the final year of three-year's funding (£300,000 in total) to the Greenhouse Schools Project which teaches 11-16 year olds life and social skills using sports and arts. Greenhouse especially targets those who are experiencing difficulties with learning and behaviour or who are living with a disability. Greenhouse has a team of outstanding coaches and organisers, trained in mentoring, child protection and first aid. They run weekend and school holiday programmes, often using facilities at leading independent schools to which these young people would not otherwise have access.
Greenhouse also recruits young people from the community and helps them earn nationally recognised qualifications.
Chance to Shine (£30,000)
Chance to Shine, the Cricket Foundation's campaign to regenerate competitive cricket in state schools, is the single biggest sports-development, social-philanthropy initiative ever undertaken in Britain. It is a campaign that recognises the power of cricket in particular (and competitive team sports in general) to enhance the education of young people, to create opportunity, to encourage inclusion and create more cohesive, better integrated communities.
ELBA (Sports Container) (£25,000)
ELBA (East London Business Alliance) creates possibilities in east London by connecting business to local people, alongside public and community partners, to enable social, economic and infrastructure change.
We continued our support towards the provision of a shipping container of sports equipment in Fords Park, Canning Town. The container offers a variety of sports equipment and informal play sessions where the children do not have to commit themselves to fixed time schedules or activities. Youth workers are also on hand to run sports sessions and organise events and equipment. See also Other: ELBA
