We take care to ensure that our community involvement reflects and is aligned with our core corporate values:

Integrity
Man has a long history of philanthropic engagement with the communities in which we live and conduct our business. Rather than supporting large national charities the Charitable Trust funds small to medium size charities that can secure sustainable improvements in the lives of the vulnerable and deprived in our society. We fund in areas that often receive little public support such as domestic violence; addiction; homelessness; care for the elderly and mental health. The Charitable Trust supports efforts to re-integrate these individuals into society by reducing hardship and inspiring hope.

Excellence
We support projects that engage with disadvantaged youth by tackling exclusion and reducing poverty of aspiration. We also work with and identify those who have the ability to excel and fund bursaries and scholarships to enable individuals to reach their full potential.

Innovation
We support charities that develop innovative projects which may struggle to obtain funding because they are either considered "too risky" or are at an experimental or pilot stage, e.g. the Every Child a Reader initiative which funds highly-skilled Reading Recovery teachers in inner-city schools, to provide intensive literacy support to children in great need. As a result of this initiative, the government subsequently agreed to roll the programme out nationally, which will benefit 30,000 children year-on-year from 2010-11.

Performance
Our overriding principle is to identify where and how we can deliver the greatest impact – we measure success by measuring impact. We often partner with other like-minded funders to leverage our charitable giving and therefore create an even bigger impact. We carefully monitor all our grants to ensure progress against agreed objectives.
